Zowie FK1 Review. It would be fair to say that the approach many gaming peripheral manufacturers take is to throw in as many features as they can. That could be the massive amount of buttons on the likes of the Razer Naga. Or the high DPI of the Kone XTD and G700s. Zowie have always been a company going against that trend and to day we see their latest mouse in our Zowie FK1 Review. Zowie FK1 Review – Packaging and Bundle. The FK1 packaging uses a nice clean design and actually acts as a quick start guide of sorts.
Since releasing the ZOWIE AM we have received requests from gamers who are both ambidextrous mice developed for gamers who prefer a claw-grip play style, Easy to switch between left- and right-hand functionality, no driver needed.
Telling us how to change or read the DPI setting. Inside the box there is no manual, just a sticker and some extra low friction feet to use should ours wear over time.
Zowie FK1 Review – The Mouse. Zowie use a matt black body for their FK1 and as with the no frills approach to software (there is none) there are no lights present on the top/sides of the mouse.
Just a yellow company logo and yellow, clickable scroll wheel. The mouse is 128mm long, 37mm heigh and 62mm wide with a total weight of 90g.
As can be seen above, this is an ambidextrous mouse and so the left and right sides both feature two thumb buttons which use Huano switches, just like left/right click. Right handed operation is enabled out of the box and to enable the left handed mode we press the left button and scroll wheel when plugging in the mouse (right click and scroll wheel to switch back). Turning the mouse over we find two low friction feet and then in the centre a 3200dpi Avago 3310 optical sensor with 1. 5-1. 8mm lift off distance (2nd setting of just over 2mm available via button config also). Zowie allow us to select four DPI levels via the yellow button on the base, 400, 800, 1600 and 3200.
The colour of the LED beside this tells us which is enabled and our polling rate can be tweaked too. Default is 1000Hz and we can change to 500hz by pressing the thumb button closest to the front when plugging in, or both thumb buttons to set 125Hz.
The back thumb button switches us back to 1000Hz. Connecting the mouse to our system is a rubber coated 2m cable which ends in a gold plated USB. Zowie FK1 Review – A Little Extra.
Our FK1 arrived with a little extra item, the Zowie Camade. This is a compact cable management device which has a rubber base to stay in place on our desk. We can adjust the height at which the cable exits the device and how much cable is available to us. Nice, simple and effective.

Zowie FK1 Review – User Experience and Conclusion. In terms of design the Zowie FK1 feels like a classic gaming mouse. Very much in the style of devices we would have used a decade or so ago.
Since then many other manufacturers have moved on to much more extreme designes but really there was a lot to love about this shape. In fact on one of our test systems we still use the original Deathadder which isn’t too different in features and shape. There is enough texture to the FK1 surface to give it grip and the light weight makes it exceptionally easy to move around our gaming surface. It would be handy if Zowie could print the button combinations on the base which allow us to change polling rate or left/right mode… maybe even a colour key for the DPI. Just to keep things simple for the end user, especially those who get rid of the packaging. We do like the simplicity of the no software approach though, it is certainly far better than some of the terrible quality control panels we see from competitors.
In terms of performance the mouse performed exceptionally well. It offered accurate tracking at each DPI setting, across a range of hard and soft surfaces. Jitter was minimal in our image editing software when working on fine edges and we noticed no issues with odd acceleration/actions.
The Zowie FK1 is available for £49. 99 at Overclockers. co.
uk and wins our performance award. An ideal mouse for those who want a high performance, functional device with no software to configure.
